Apple Unveils New iPad Air with M4 Chip and Powerful AI Features

Apple has officially introduced the new iPad Air powered by the advanced M4 chip, bringing a major boost in performance, improved connectivity, and new capabilities powered by iPadOS 26. The updated tablet aims to deliver a faster and more versatile experience for students, creators, professionals, and gamers.

Apple Unveils New iPad Air with M4 Chip and Powerful AI Features

The new iPad Air keeps the same starting price while offering a significant performance upgrade compared to previous models. According to Apple, the M4 chip delivers up to 30 percent faster performance than the previous M3-powered iPad Air and up to 2.3 times faster speeds than the M1 version.

More Power with the M4 Chip

At the heart of the new device is Apple’s M4 processor featuring an 8-core CPU and a 9-core GPU. This allows users to handle demanding tasks such as video editing, graphic design, and gaming much faster than before.

Apps like Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro benefit from the increased performance, enabling smoother video editing and faster photo compositing. The upgraded GPU also supports second-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, delivering more realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows in games and 3D rendering.

Apple says the new iPad Air can deliver over four times faster 3D rendering compared to the M1 version, making it suitable even for professional creative workflows.

Built for Artificial Intelligence

The M4 chip also brings significant improvements for AI-powered tasks. The new iPad Air includes a 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate on-device AI features.

Apple increased the unified memory to 12GB, which is 50 percent more than the previous generation, while memory bandwidth has been boosted to 120GB/s. These improvements allow the device to run AI models faster and support features such as advanced photo search, AI-powered note transcription, and intelligent editing tools.

The Neural Engine also enhances creative apps, allowing functions like automatic background removal in video editing and advanced AI features in note-taking and productivity apps.

Faster Connectivity with New Apple Chips

For the first time, the iPad Air includes Apple-designed connectivity chips called N1 and C1X.

The N1 wireless chip enables support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. This improves wireless speed and reliability, especially when using features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.

Cellular models of the device include the C1X modem, which Apple says offers up to 50 percent faster cellular data speeds while also improving energy efficiency. The tablet also supports 5G connectivity and eSIM, allowing users to easily activate mobile plans without a physical SIM card.

New Features in iPadOS 26

The new iPad Air takes advantage of several features introduced in iPadOS 26. One of the biggest changes is a redesigned interface built with Apple’s Liquid Glass design, which adapts visually depending on user interaction.

The update also introduces a more advanced windowing system that makes it easier to organize and switch between apps. Users can access a new menu bar by swiping down from the top of the screen, improving multitasking on the tablet.

The Files app has also been upgraded with better folder management and customization options. Additionally, the Preview app is now available on iPad, allowing users to view, edit, and annotate PDFs and images using touch or Apple Pencil.

Accessories Expand Productivity

Apple continues to support accessories designed to enhance productivity on the iPad Air.

The tablet works with both Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). Apple Pencil Pro includes advanced features such as squeeze gestures, barrel roll controls, and Find My support to help locate the stylus if misplaced.

The Magic Keyboard for iPad Air adds a laptop-like typing experience with a built-in trackpad and a 14-key function row for quick access to brightness and volume controls. The keyboard connects magnetically and includes a USB-C port for charging.

Two Sizes and Multiple Colors

The new iPad Air is available in two sizes: an 11-inch model designed for portability and a larger 13-inch version for users who need more screen space for multitasking.

Both models come in four colors: blue, purple, starlight, and space gray. Storage options range from 128GB to 1TB.

Pricing and Availability

The 11-inch iPad Air starts at $599 for the Wi-Fi version and $749 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The larger 13-inch version starts at $799 for Wi-Fi and $949 for Wi-Fi + Cellular.

Education pricing lowers the starting price to $549 for the 11-inch model and $749 for the 13-inch model.

Apple began accepting pre-orders on March 4, with the device officially becoming available starting March 11 through Apple’s online store and authorized retailers.

Apple says the new iPad Air is also designed with sustainability in mind, featuring 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and recycled cobalt in the battery, as part of the company’s goal to become carbon neutral across its entire supply chain by 2030.
