Apple Introduces iPhone 17e with A19 Chip, 48MP Camera, and 256GB Starting Storage
Apple iPhone 17e is the newest and most affordable model in the Apple iPhone 17 series, offering strong performance, improved durability, and a capable camera system while maintaining a competitive price. The device is powered by the latest Apple A19 chip and introduces several upgrades designed to make the iPhone experience faster and more versatile.
Apple announced that the iPhone 17e will start with 256GB of storage — double the base storage of the previous generation — while keeping the same starting price of $599.
Powerful Performance with the A19 Chip
At the core of the new phone is Apple’s A19 processor, built using advanced 3-nanometer technology. The chip includes a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU, delivering a significant boost in speed and efficiency.
Apple says the new processor can be up to twice as fast as the chip used in the Apple iPhone 11, allowing users to smoothly handle everything from everyday apps to demanding mobile games. The GPU also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, enabling more realistic lighting and reflections in modern mobile titles.
The A19 chip is supported by a new 16-core Neural Engine, designed to accelerate AI-powered features within iOS 26 and Apple’s growing ecosystem of intelligent tools.
Improved Connectivity with Apple’s C1X Modem
The new iPhone 17e also features Apple’s next-generation Apple C1X modem, which delivers significantly faster cellular speeds. According to Apple, it is up to two times faster than the modem found in the Apple iPhone 16e while using 30 percent less power.
This helps the device achieve better battery efficiency and reliable connectivity when streaming, gaming, or downloading content on the go.
Premium Design with Stronger Protection
The iPhone 17e features a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum frame and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The device also introduces Ceramic Shield 2 on the front display, which Apple says offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation.
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display delivers vibrant colors, deep contrast, and up to 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness, making it easier to view content even in bright outdoor conditions.
Face ID remains the main biometric authentication system, while the Action button allows users to quickly access features such as the flashlight or visual intelligence tools.
Advanced 48MP Camera System
Photography is handled by a 48-megapixel Fusion camera system capable of capturing highly detailed images and videos. The camera also includes a 2x optical-quality telephoto zoom, effectively offering two camera options in one sensor.
Users can shoot photos in 48MP resolution or use the 24MP default mode for a balance of quality and file size. Portrait photography has also been improved with more natural depth effects and the ability to adjust focus after the photo is taken.
The camera system can automatically recognize people, pets, and other subjects, storing depth information to enable portrait adjustments later in the Photos app.
On the video side, iPhone 17e supports 4K recording at up to 60 frames per second in Dolby Vision. It also supports Spatial Audio recording and improved wind noise reduction for clearer sound.
MagSafe and Faster Charging
The new iPhone 17e supports MagSafe, enabling fast wireless charging and compatibility with a wide range of accessories such as wallets, cases, and chargers.
With USB-C wired charging, the device can reach up to 50 percent battery in around 30 minutes. It also supports Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W.
Satellite Features for Emergencies
Apple continues to expand satellite communication capabilities on the iPhone. When users are outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, they can send messages, contact emergency services, or share their location using satellite connectivity.
Features include Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, Roadside Assistance via satellite, and satellite support within the Find My app.
These tools are designed to help users stay connected in remote areas or during emergencies.
iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence
The device ships with iOS 26, which introduces a redesigned interface using Apple’s Liquid Glass design language. The update also brings new AI-powered tools under the Apple Intelligence system.
Users can translate conversations in real time with Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime, and Phone. The system can also analyze on-screen content, helping users search or interact with what they see.
Additional features include call screening for unknown numbers, smarter message filtering, and improved productivity tools across built-in apps.
Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 17e will be available in three colors: black, white, and soft pink. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB.
The device starts at $599 in the United States, with pre-orders opening on March 4 and availability beginning March 11.
Apple also offers trade-in programs that allow customers to receive credits toward the new device when upgrading from older iPhone models.
Apple says the iPhone 17e is built with sustainability in mind, using recycled aluminum and cobalt in its construction as part of the company’s goal to become carbon neutral across its supply chain by 2030.
