Toyota Unveils All-New 2026 RAV4 With Electrified Powertrains, Bold New Design, and GR SPORT Debut
Toyota Motor North America has officially debuted the 2026 Toyota RAV4, launching the sixth generation of America’s best-selling compact SUV. This all-new model marks a major evolution for the RAV4 lineup, featuring striking new exterior designs, advanced technology, increased performance, and—most notably—a fully electrified powertrain lineup with both Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) options.
Three Distinct Designs: Core, Rugged, and Sport
The new RAV4 is available in three bold styles:
-
Core: Sleek and refined, featuring paint-matched grille elements and chiseled SUV lines. Includes LE, XLE, and Limited grades.
-
Rugged: Tailored for adventure with the Woodland grade, featuring raised suspension, all-terrain tires, integrated LED lighting, roof rails, and a rear activity mount.
-
Sport: Performance-driven and aggressive, headlined by the first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT, developed with input from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Features GR-tuned suspension, 20-inch wheels, wing-type spoilers, and exclusive PHEV-only performance.
Electrified Performance: HEV and PHEV Powertrains
The 2026 RAV4 will only be available as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, a first for the model. Here's what's under the hood:
-
HEV Models: Powered by Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, producing:
-
236 hp (AWD)
-
226 hp (FWD) – an increase of 23 hp over previous gas models
AWD is optional on most grades, standard on some.
-
-
PHEV Models: All-new plug-in hybrid system with:
-
Up to 320 combined hp
-
Estimated 50-mile electric-only range
-
DC fast charging on select models (XSE and Woodland), charging from 10–80% in ~30 minutes
-
All PHEV models come with standard AWD
-
The PHEV range expands from two to four grades for 2026: SE, XSE, Woodland, and the all-new GR SPORT.
Increased Utility and New Technology
The 2026 RAV4 is built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, boasting:
-
Improved structural rigidity for better handling and ride comfort
-
Available towing capacity up to 3,500 lbs (AWD models)
-
A high-damping adhesive for reduced road noise
-
A choice of 17-, 18-, or 20-inch wheels, depending on the grade
New technology includes:
-
Toyota’s Arene software platform for connected services and OTA updates
-
Upgraded Toyota Audio Multimedia system
-
Enhanced Toyota Safety Sense suite with the latest driver-assist features
-
Shift-by-wire on select grades for futuristic, intuitive gear selection
A Legacy Reinvented
Since its debut in 1996, the RAV4 has defined the compact SUV segment. The sixth-generation model honors that legacy while pushing the envelope in style, performance, and sustainability.
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 will arrive in U.S. dealerships later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
