China’s Largest Solar + LNG Car Carrier Sets Sail with LONGi Solar Power
The “Yuanhai Kou,” China’s largest dual-fuel (PV + LNG) ocean-going car carrier, has officially launched its maiden voyage from Nansha, Guangzhou. Loaded with Chinese-made vehicles—over 90% of which are new energy vehicles (NEVs)—the ship is bound for Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Tunisia.
LONGi, a global leader in solar technology, supplied high-efficiency Sea-Shield PV modules for the vessel, helping set a new global benchmark for low-carbon, intelligent maritime transport.
Measuring 199.9 meters in length, the “Yuanhai Kou” features 12 decks—8 fixed and 4 movable—with a total capacity of 7,000 standard vehicles, including sedans, buses, and engineering machinery. It boasts a gross tonnage of 68,252 and a displacement of 39,069 tons.
As the largest PV + LNG car carrier in China, it integrates multiple green technologies. The ship is powered by an advanced LNG dual-fuel engine and features a distributed solar PV system with a peak capacity of 302.8 kW—the most powerful system of its kind installed on a ship to date.
The PV system includes more than 500 LONGi Sea-Shield modules, utilizing the upper deck to generate clean energy for lighting, communication, and onboard systems. It delivers around 410,000 kWh annually, saving 111 tons of fuel and cutting 345.9 tons of CO₂—equivalent to planting nearly 38,000 trees each year.
Designed specifically for harsh maritime conditions, LONGi’s Sea-Shield modules offer high resistance to salt spray, humidity, and vibrations. Features such as corrosion-resistant frames, advanced sealing, and rugged junction boxes ensure optimal performance at sea.
LONGi continues to develop scenario-specific solutions to meet global energy demands. With innovative, high-durability solar products, LONGi is lighting the way for sustainable shipping and supporting China’s green export journey.
