Apple Unveils New MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips and Powerful On-Device AI

Apple has officially introduced the latest generation of the MacBook Pro, powered by the new Apple M5 Pro and Apple M5 Max chips. The new 14-inch and 16-inch models bring significant improvements in performance, storage speed, battery life, and on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.

Apple Unveils New MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips and Powerful On-Device AI

According to Apple, the new MacBook Pro delivers up to four times faster AI performance compared to the previous generation and up to eight times faster AI performance than models powered by the M1 chips. The laptop is designed for demanding users such as developers, researchers, creatives, and engineers who rely on powerful hardware for complex workflows.

Major Performance Boost with M5 Pro and M5 Max

The new MacBook Pro models are powered by Apple’s latest silicon built using a Fusion Architecture that combines two silicon dies into a single system-on-a-chip. This design allows the processor to deliver higher performance while maintaining strong energy efficiency.

Both chips feature an advanced CPU architecture with up to 18 cores, including six high-performance “super cores” and twelve new performance cores designed for multithreaded professional workloads. Apple says this configuration can deliver up to 30 percent faster CPU performance.

Graphics performance has also been upgraded thanks to a next-generation GPU that includes a dedicated Neural Accelerator in every core. This design significantly increases AI processing power and improves graphics performance for demanding tasks such as 3D rendering, video editing, and game development.

Apple says the system can deliver up to 50 percent better graphics performance compared to the previous generation.

Massive Improvements for AI Workflows

One of the biggest upgrades in the new MacBook Pro is its ability to handle artificial intelligence tasks directly on the device. With enhanced Neural Engines, faster memory bandwidth, and Neural Accelerators integrated into the GPU, the laptop can process large AI models and advanced workflows locally.

This allows developers and researchers to run large language models and train AI models directly on the machine without relying heavily on cloud computing. Creative professionals can also use AI-powered tools for video editing, image generation, music production, and design workflows.

The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory with bandwidth reaching 307GB per second, while the M5 Max supports up to 128GB of unified memory with bandwidth up to 614GB per second.

Faster Storage and Larger Base Capacity

Apple has also improved storage performance in the new MacBook Pro. The SSD can deliver up to twice the read and write speeds compared to the previous generation, reaching speeds of up to 14.5GB per second.

The base storage has also increased. Models powered by M5 Pro now start with 1TB of storage, while versions with M5 Max begin with 2TB.

Display, Battery, and Connectivity

The new MacBook Pro continues to feature Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and up to 1000 nits for SDR content. A nano-texture display option is also available to reduce reflections in bright environments.

Battery life has also been improved, with Apple claiming up to 24 hours of use on a single charge. Fast charging allows the battery to reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a compatible USB-C power adapter.

Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI with support for up to 8K resolution, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging. The laptop can also support multiple external displays — up to two with M5 Pro and up to four with M5 Max.

Wireless connectivity has been upgraded with the Apple-designed N1 chip, enabling support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for faster and more reliable connections.

Camera, Audio, and Software

The new MacBook Pro includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View support, making video calls and presentations more dynamic. The laptop also features studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio support.

It ships with macOS Tahoe, which introduces new productivity features and expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities. The operating system also adds improved Spotlight search, enhanced automation tools in Shortcuts, and Live Translation support across several apps.

Pricing and Availability

The new MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order starting March 4, with official availability beginning March 11.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,199, while the 16-inch version starts at $2,699. Models equipped with M5 Max start at $3,599 for the 14-inch model and $3,899 for the 16-inch version.

Both models are available in space black and silver finishes.

With major improvements in performance, storage, AI processing, and battery life, the new MacBook Pro continues to push Apple’s professional laptop lineup forward, offering one of the most powerful portable workstations currently available.
