Garmin unveils G5000 PRIME integrated flight deck
Garmin has launched the G5000 PRIME, its most sophisticated integrated flight deck to date, purpose-built for Part 25 transport category aircraft. Leveraging Garmin’s proven innovations, G5000 PRIME simplifies cockpit operations, enhances safety, and provides pilots with a powerful, all-touchscreen interface that’s intuitive, customizable, and highly flexible. Designed for busy airspace and airport environments, it offers increased display options and a modular architecture that allows operators to quickly adopt emerging technologies and systems.
With support for deeper avionics integration and more access to aircraft-level systems, G5000 PRIME is built to deliver higher reliability and outstanding dispatch availability.
"With over 30,000 integrated flight decks in the field, Garmin has paved the way for innovation and set a new standard for integrated avionics. The G5000 PRIME avionics suite is completely optimized for crewed operations and includes deeper systems integration, and advanced automation and connectivity features that will reduce crew workload and streamline workflow in the cockpit."–Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales, Marketing, Programs & Support
A New Standard in Flight Deck Design
The G5000 PRIME features sleek, edge-to-edge touchscreen primary display units (PDUs) that are sunlight-readable and fingerprint-resistant. These vibrant displays deliver performance enhancements such as quadrupled memory capacity and gigabit-level system connectivity—up to 100 times faster than earlier generations. Equipped with multi-core processors offering more than double the previous processing power, the system enables smooth, high-refresh animations for a fast and fluid user experience.
Complementing the PDUs are secondary display units (SDUs) for data entry and system control. These high-resolution SDUs offer a 40% larger display area than previous Garmin controllers and support multi-function applications.
Pilot-Focused User Interface
G5000 PRIME is built around a crew-centric design, enabling faster information processing and reduced pilot workload. The system’s advanced multi-touch displays support up to 10 simultaneous touch inputs, allowing pilot and copilot to use the same screen together. On-screen hand stabilization enables precise inputs even during turbulence. Physical control devices—including Garmin and third-party cursor control devices (CCD)—add another layer of intuitive interaction.
Smarter Automation, Enhanced Safety Tools
Garmin has equipped G5000 PRIME with advanced automation and flight management system (FMS) features like the Modified Flight Plan tool, which allows crews to preview route changes and performance comparisons side by side on both PDUs and SDUs. The new Window Manager system simplifies configuration of display layouts, enabling single-command updates across all screens based on preset flight phase profiles.
Emergency Return and Emergency Descent Mode features are designed to assist crews during high-workload situations. Garmin Autothrottles and TOLD/load planning integration (via AeroData products) further streamline preflight and in-flight decision-making.
Terminal safety features have also been upgraded. Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) analyzes GPS and ADS-B traffic data to help prevent incursions and collisions. ROA complements Garmin’s suite of airport safety tools, including Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS), 3D SafeTaxi®, SurfaceWatch™, and the new Taxiway Routing function that overlays guidance on both 2D and 3D maps, including Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™).
Fleet Connectivity and Operational Uptime
The G5000 PRIME supports advanced connectivity through the GDL® 60 datalink, enabling maintenance teams to access real-time diagnostic and health data. With Connext® global datalink services, operators benefit from global satellite weather, cockpit voice calling, email, and text messaging.
The system is also compliant with key airspace modernization programs, supporting FAA Data Comm, Link 2000+ CPDLC, FANS 1/A+, ACARS, and performance-based navigation (PBN) applications.
Backed by Garmin’s field-proven track record and modular line-replaceable unit (LRU) design, the G5000 PRIME is engineered for easy maintenance and high fleet availability—even in demanding operational conditions.
