Instagram Reached 200 Million Active Users

Just a year ago, Instagram had 100 million active monthly users, and now the company has announced that it has over 200 million active monthly users.
Instagram was purchased back in 2012 by Facebook in a deal worth $1 billion, the company also announced that more than 20 billion photos have now been shared on Instagram.
From documenting a passion for jazz to the protests in Kiev, we’re continually surprised and humbled by the moments you share. As we exceed 20 billion photos shared on Instagram to date, we look back in wonder at the beauty and importance of everything this community has created.
The vibrance and diversity of this community has increased as it has grown. Over the past six months, we’ve seen new communities coming together in cities and towns across the world, whether they be in Guthrie, Oklahoma, or Guatemala City. With January’s Worldwide InstaMeet 8, we saw record turnouts of communities coming together to form friendships, explore new places and celebrate creativity in all corners of the globe from New Dehli to New York, Bucharest, Nairobi and beyond.
In the last six month, Instagram has added a total of 50 million new monthly users, it will be interesting to see how many they have by the end of the year.

Social Media And Business

The term social media is used as a blanket term to cover all social networks, which web users use to communicate and interact with each other on the internet. It's a platform that has become a very important part of business and entrepreneurs are using this chance which enables them to market online and increase their customer base. Social media has enabled many people to run their businesses from the comfort of their homes. Considering this fact, social media is very important for your home business since it gives you a platform that enables you to market and communicate with potential customers around the globe.

Interactive social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn etc.. They have completely altered the face of marketing practice which has displaced the usual mouth to mouth strategy employed a few years ago to be business people and potential customers interact virtually over the internet and the entrepreneurs are able to market their products and services easily.

This social media platform has the biggest users and enables you as a business entrepreneur to interact with the largest marketplace of potential customers. It is accessible from all corners of the globe and a person in the United States can sell a product or service to another person in Indonesia. It also constitutes almost all age groups and what's amazing is that when a customer likes your product or service, they will inform their friends, hence increasing your market base.

Twitter

Twitter is a micro blogging social media platform where users post brief posts known as tweets and enables users to share information and follow other twitter users. Whenever a client likes your product or service, they will share their experience with other users and this increases your market platform.

LinkedIn

Although linked in does not boast many users like Facebook and Twitter, it has influence since professionals and experts who feel that other social media platforms are crowded mostly use it. It's a safe program for people who want professional networking only and connecting with fellow professionals from across the globe.

Instagram

Photograph lovers really understand the role Instagram plays in helping them carry out their hobbies. This program enables users to share photos with their friends and has a distinctive feature, which enables users to filter the photos and images and then share them on other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

Mistakes to Avoid On Social Media as an Entrepreneur

Since more and more entrepreneurs are learning the importance social media in the success of their businesses, it's important to make sure that you stand out from the rest by using the social media in the proper way. Read the below tips to know which mistakes to avoid in this process;

Not having a plan/goal- Having a plan will require recognizing the goal you are trying to achieve from using the social media and how you plan to go about it. This is what separates successful businesses and the failing ones.

Imperfect profile - An incomplete or imperfect profile will tell your potential client that you are also unreliable as an entrepreneur. Make sure your profile online is complete and clean so that it will have a lasting impression on potential clients.

Inconsistency - You should have consistency in your updates and posts so that potential customers will know that you are always around. Make sure also that you maintain the same profile on all social media platforms so that customers will recognize you easily.

Not communicating - This involves not answering customers queries and complains they are having about your business, product or service. Even if they criticize you, just take it in good faith and develop your product or service to suit the customers' needs and wants.

Top 5 Alternatives to Instagram

The recent revisions to Instagram's Terms of Use have left a lot of people unsure of whether they will continue using the service or not. Many are not willing to have their photos available for sale to advertisers and are abandoning their accounts. Others are staying because they can't find a suitable alternative, or don't know of any photo-sharing services that offer what Instagram does. If you're struggling to find an app to replace the beloved Instagram, here are 5 alternatives to the popular service that you can consider.

Camera Awesome
One of the advantages Camera Awesome has over Instragram is native iPad support. This app offers the ability for users to enhance photos using a variety of options, and has several humorous filters to select from including "More Cowbell," "Hoth" and "Joan of Art".

Flickr
Flickr has been a favorite photo sharing website for some time. The recent update to its mobile app now sees it joining the growing trend of allowing users to use filters on their photographs. Users can select from 15 different filters, such as the traditional and popular black-and-white, enhanced color and warming filters, as well as extra filters like Chameleon and Panda. Flickr also has the added advantage of hosting its own website.

Pixlr-O-Matic
One of the key selling points of this app is that it is available across multiple platforms and is not exclusive to just iOS and Android devices. Login is available through Facebook and Twitter, and it also hosts its own standalone website. Users of Pixlr-O-Matic can apply overlays and borders to their images, add special effects and then save the new image and share it with others. It also has an option for the built-in randomizer to select effects to add for you, if you can't decide which to add for yourself.

Streamzoo
Available for iPhone and Android devices, Streamzoo offers multiple possibilities with its various filters, borders and preset crops. Users can also select specific themes to create special streams and earn achievement badges based on their activity within the app.

Twitter
After losing its ability to integrate photos from Instagram into tweets, the popular social network has developed its own set of filters to use on photos uploaded by the user. Currently, there are only 8 filters to choose from as the feature is still new, but look for more to be added in the near future.

Other Alternatives
If none of the above 5 seems to be what you are looking for, there are other alternatives out there that you can try, including Snapseed (available on iOS and Android), Tadaa (available only on iOS) and EyeEm (available on iOS and Android).

Retrieving Instagram Photos
If you are one of the people looking to leave Instragram, but don't want to lose all of the photos you have uploaded to the service, the app has an option to save each image you upload to your phone's camera roll.  The problem is that you would lose all of your
instagram followers and instagram likes. If you don't have this enabled, or have deleted the photos from your device already, you can use an export service such as Instaport to retrieve the photos, or alternatively save them individually to your computer using Webstagram.

Using Instagram Marketing as a Branding Campaign Tool

Many businesses, large and small, are turning to Instagram to promote their products. The Instagram marketing platform has taken off as social media becomes the marketing tool of the immediate future. Facebook’s photo-sharing application has become extremely popular because it’s largely photo-based which consumers much prefer these days. Their interaction with a produce they can see is the all important factor in marketing these days. Instant gratification is rife as more and more people become less interested in reading about products, and more into appreciating the visuals of what they’re about to spend their money on.

Here are a few Instagram marketing tips:

Promotions

The application is great for product promotions as companies post creative pictures of the products and services onto their Facebook and website pages. Stock photos are less popular than they used to be. Now, businesses take their own pictures and treat them with Instagram thereby building brand recognition. The Instagram marketing platform is used by big players such as Starbucks who are known for their quirky pictures of their products and content of images which they send to the Instagram followers every day. Avoid posting the same visuals as people will turn off. Keep the promotion visuals new and fresh.

Secret Discount Promotions

It’s an effective way to do marketing for your company, it’s also cost efficient. Topshop recently used their Instagram photos to attract clients to their discounts and sales. All of their 218 000 Instagram followers were treated to the images which revealed secret codes for discounts, and indications on where to find new stores. Instagram works much like Twitter in that you would have to hashtag your ‘offer’ photos with promotional codes. Cost effective and with a wide reach this Instagram marketing tool is extremely popular.

Consumer Interaction

It’s the core of marketing nowadays and including your Instagram followers in your campaign goes a long way to creating hype around your products. Choosing fans on your Instagram marketing page and promoting them with a @mention means you can comment and tag them in your comments. It’s viral marketing technique that can generate word-of-mouth promotions. Your fans followers can start to hook up to your Instagram page. Followers love being recognised for their contribution and loyalty to companies. Get your Instagram marketing campaign up and running soon for effective advertising.

Food for Instagram

Instagram is a fresh new website that is allowing people to upload and enhance their photographs. One thing that many people are using this site for is to upload and share food pictures. You may be wondering what the point of uploading and sharing food pictures would be when using Instagram. There are a couple of reasons why food pictures on this site are becoming increasingly popular for people of all ages to try. This might even cause you to get on the bandwagon when it comes to posting things on Instagram with your own account.

The one reason people upload food photos to the site is that they want to showoff what they are eating. Showing off what you eat is also a great way to stick to a diet plan because it holds you somewhat accountable for the food choices you are making. It can also be fun to share your recipes and ideas with the world when you enjoy food or are following a strict healthy diet that you would like others to know about. Uploading food images to the site is incredibly easy and you can continue by enhancing your pictures before you decide to share them with the world.
Another reason that food images on Instagram can be fun is because it gives you a chance to see what other people are eating. You never know, you may find an amazing snack or meal idea to try for yourself right at home. You can get some amazing meal ideas just by looking at other images of food. When following a healthy diet plan, you can get low calorie snack ideas that you can incorporate into your everyday life. The possibilities of finding and sharing food ideas are practically endless when it comes to actually using Instagram for this purpose.
The next time you find that you are struggling to find information on new meal ideas and healthy snacks, keep Instagram in mind. You will be able to surf through thousands of food pictures to see what looks good to you and is easy to make. You can then begin taking your own pictures and sharing them with other people so that you are able to let others know what you are eating and how they can make it themselves. There has never been an easier way to get quick meal and snack ideas than by using Instagram and searching for a variety of different food items that happen to be posted right on the site.

One of the major new features in Instagram version 3 is called photo maps, you can now geo-tag or add your location to photos, and the photos can then bee seen on a map.

The new Instagram app update also feature a new design for user profiles, and many other parts of the app have also had a new design, you can find out full details over at the Instagram Blog.

Instagram Hits 80 Million Users

It looks like Facebook’s $1 billion acquisition of Instagram has help the photo sharing app grow significantly as Instagram have announced that they now have over 80 million users.
Back in May Instagram had 50 million users, so they have almost doubled their user base in just a couple of months, the growth was also helped by Instagram’s launch of their Android app.

It will be interesting to see if Instagram can continue to grow their users base at the same rate, if they do then they should be able to hit the 100 million users mark before the end of the year.

Instagram recently launched an Android version of their app, which has probably helped them increase there user base considerably, and we suspect it wont be long before they hit the 100 million user mark.

Facebook Hopes to Expand Photo Sharing to Mobile Phones With Instagram Purchase

Facebook has entered into a deal to buy Instagram, a photo sharing network. The well known social network site will pay$1 billion for the transaction in cash and will also give stock in its company.

Facebook has 30 million active users. The deal will be the most the company has spent in any transaction, and it this will affect more people than any other Facebook deal.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a blog that his company will not do many more such transactions, perhaps none. He said the current deal was worth the money because people all over the world love Facebook, and the company wants to provide the best file sharing experience possible.

Instagram was established by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The photo application the company makes allows customers to add visual effects and create distinctive filters. The pictures the customers use the application with were all taken on a smartphone. More than one million downloads were made in only 12 hours of the Android version when it was released. Before the applications were available only iPhone users had a stylish service, and many such users have complained about the new applications.

Instagram's creators claimed one month ago that they did not want to sell their company. Systroma month ago told CNNMoney, as reported on , that he did not want to sell the company. He said he wanted the company to remain "independent."
According to the article in CNN, many investors in Instagram's company did not expect the sale to Facebook, because Instagram had been involved in a $50 million financing deal, and the company was then worth $500 million. That deal doubled the investors’ money.
Facebook has been involved in buying popular startup companies before. It has then killed the startup's products and worked on other matters. Facebook officials said they will not do that with Instagram.

Instagram's founders wrote they his company will add new new features, in an effort to make a better photo experience will mobile phones.
Zuckerberg said Facebook will grow Instagram independently. He added multitudes love the Instagram application and know the brand.
Facebook planned to go public earned $1billion in 2011, according to an article in pcworld.com.
The difference between this purchase and other deals by other companies is that Instagram is well known but has no business model. When Yahoo bought Flicker for $35 billion seven years ago, it was paying for an established company that is still one of the most popular photo networks online.

Instagram does not charge for its application. There were plans to charge in the future when the company is more established.
According to an article at HuffingtonPost, Facebook has dominated the photo sharing market, and the deal is an attempt to maintain that dominance. Last year users uploaded more than 250 million photos daily. Facebook users spent 20% of their time browsing photos, according to a 2011 study in comScore.
Instagram had become popular in only two years. The company has expertise in photo sharing, especially to mobile phone users.

Zuckerberg said Instagram employees are talented.
The Facebook CEO said his company always tried to provide the best experience in sharing pictures. He said his company will now be able to offer the best experience for sharing pictures among mobile phone users.
Those using Instagram's services will still be able to share photos on social networking websites other than Facebook. They will not be forced to share their pictures with Facebook either.

Zuckerberg was pleased with the deal because of the size of Instagram's data base. He called the deal a milestone for Facebook. He wrote that his company had never purchased a product that already has so many users.
Instagram has 13 employees. Instagram employees are excited to join Facebook, Systrom wrote in a blog.

He also wrote that his company will stay around. He said his company will work with Facebook to " evolve Instagram. He also said his company will add new features and work to make sharing mobile phone pictures better.
T
ime will show how well the deal will work out for both companies. The recent deal is a lot bigger than Facebook usually is involved with. An article noted previous deals the company was involved with were usually worth less than $100 million. The same article noted that the mobile market had been seen as a weakness for Facebook before the deal.

Instagram Reaches Another 10 Million Users In Just 7 Days

Just one week ago  Facebook purchase the popular photo sharing service Instagram for $1 billion. .
At the time Instagram already had a very big users base of around 30 million users, but reports are now indicating that since its Facebook purchase the Instagram service has now attracted another 10 million users in just over a week.

Its seems that the huge price tag Facebook paid of the Instagram service has attracted new users looking to see what the service has to offer. However many of the new users also have to be contributed to the new Android Instagram application which was also launched just a few days before Facebook purchased the company.

Either way the user base on Instagram is looking healthier by the day, and an increase of 10 million users in just 7 days, is far quicker than it took the service to reach 30 million users over 18 months.

Instagram For Android Updated, Now Supporting NVIDIA Tegra 3 Devices

When Instagram launched on Google’s Android platform there were reports of a number of Android devices that wouldn’t work with the app, which included a number of NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered devices like the new HTC One X.
Instagram has released a number of updates to the application since it was launched, and a new update has been released which adds in support for NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices and the new HTC One X.

As well as adding in support for new devices, the latest update also brings a range of bug fixes, including support for more tablets, fixes for Instagram photos not appearing in the gallery and more.

Instagram On Top iOS App Store Charts

Instagram has been available on Apple’s iOS platform for quite a while, the company also recently launched an Android version which we heard yesterday had reached 5 million downloads.
We also heard that Facebook had agreed to purchase Instagram for a massive $1 billion, and it looks all the publicity has made Instagram even more popular as it has now topped the iOS app store charts.

Instagram announced on Twitter that their app had hit the top of the app store charts for the first time “Instagram is #1 in the @AppStore for the first time ever! Thanks everyone! instagr.am/p/JQZkiGhQV9/”
We suspect Instagram is going to get a whole lot more popular due to the publicity it has received over the last few days, and we suspect it will end up having a lot more than 30 million users.

Facebook Buys Instagram For $1 Billion

Facebook has announced the acquisition of Instagram for a reported one billion dollars!

The announcement comes via blog posting by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg.

I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.
For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.
We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.
That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.
We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.
These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure.
This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
We're looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we're going to be able to build together.

Instagrille - The Best Instagram Viewer For Windows

As you may have know, Instagram finally made its way to the many millions of Android users this week, and although it’s certainly a step in the right direction for the most popular image networking app on the planet right now, it’s definitely crying out for some sort of web interface.

With work on the Android version having sapped most of the Instagram team’s energy/attention, we aren’t expecting a web app any time soon, but Instagrille for Windows does offer a  pretty neat desktop version in the meantime.

It’s created by SweetLabs – a development team focused on delivering the very best in HTML5 apps and games through an app called Pokki.

Pokki is the product of a San Diego-based startup SweetLabs, which is backed by Google and Intel. There are more than 150 apps in the Pokki store today, and Instagrille has been receiving some good feedback since it launched late last year.

When you download the app and launch it, you’ll be asked to connect with your Instagram account, and the little Instagrille icon (which looks pretty familiar…) sits in your taskbar at the bottom.

The app essentially lets you do everything your Instagram account does, except upload photos from your desktop.
When you first log-in, you’ll see all the usual icons you’re familiar with, such as ‘Popular’, which gives you the option of viewing in a grid format (below) or list:

It also features feeds, profile views, and supports comments and ‘likes’ with real-time notifications. You can also follow/unfollow other Instagram users through this little third-party Web app:

First impressions here was that it was a really nice, elegant and well-designed desktop app. And I’m not sure whether Instagram would do a much better job itself of creating such a simple, streamlined experience for the desktop.

Instagrille is currently compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8, with a version for Mac apparently coming soon.

Download Instagrille for Windows.

Instagram For Android Receives Another Update

Instagram for Android was released the other day, and the app hit 1 million downloads in less than 24 hours, although some users have had problems using the application and Instagram has now released its second update to Instagram for Android.
The latest version is Instagram for Android 1.0.2, and the update is supposed to fix the problems that many users have been reporting, hopefully this update will address some of the issues.

If you have updated to the latest version of Instagram for Android and it has fixed your problems, or you are still having problems leave a comment and let us know, also let us know which smartphone you are using.
It looks like the Instagram guys are working hard to get the issues fixes as this is the second update they have released in two days, you can get the latest version of Instagram for Android over at Google Play.

Instagram For Android Hits 1 Million Downloads In 24 Hours

Instagram is extremely popular on Apple’s iOS platform with more than 30 million users, and the Android version launched yesterday and it looks like Instagram for Android is going to be extremely popular.

According to the team over at the Next Web, there are more than 1 million downloads of Instagram for Android in less than 24 hours, which is impressive.

This could be one of the most popular app releases on Google’s Android platform to day, and we wonder how long it will take for the Android version to become as popular as they iOS version and hit 30 million users, what do you guys think?

Source The Next Web

Instagram For Android Updated

Instagram for Android was only released yesterday, and the app has already received its first official update, which is supposed to improve the apps compatibility with a number of different Android devices.
According to the guys over at The Verge, they were having trouble getting the new HTC One X to work with Instagram, and after the update the device still doesn’t work, but it now shows the message ‘ camera not supported’.

It would appear that the majority if devices seem to be supported in Instagram for Android, and it isn’t clear if this is limited to the HTC One X or whether the AT&T version of the HTC One X which is powered by the Snapdragon S4 processor instead of the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor will have the same problem.
If you have been having problems getting your android device to work with Instagram, lave a comment and let us know which device it is, we suspect the developers should have an update to fix the issues soon.
